The First Mermaid Parade

September 2nd, Krewe Du Fool – which puts on the annual April Fools parade – branched out this year with a new Mermaid-themed parade along the Mississippi. The destination? Of course, the recently reopened Audubon Aquarium. The $15 participation fee benefits the Audubon Nature Institute Education Department. If the delight of parade-goers and marching sea creatures is any indication, this one is fated to spawn an even larger parade next year.
